About Me
Early Life & European Roots
Ursula Wright grew up with four siblings in Switzerland, where she lived until her marriage to an American Air Force officer. Together with her husband Philip and their two daughters, they lived in France, Germany and Italy for almost ten years. They were fortunate to visit many of the cultural and historic sites and developed a love for art and architecture.
Academic Foundations
Upon studying Art History and Classics at George Washington University and the Courtauld Institute in London, Ursula worked in the museum and education fields in Washington, D.C., in Connecticut and in the Seacoast.
The Austin Years
When Philip retired from the National Park Service they moved to Austin, Texas, for seven years. There Ursula continued her studies with several excellent artists and teachers at the Austin School of Art.
Returning Home to the Seacoast
Upon returning to the Seacoast in 2016 Ursula started taking courses at Sanctuary Arts in Eliot, Maine, studying with the late DeWitt Hardy. She continues studying with Tom Glover, focusing on landscapes, seascapes, on the Ogunquit School and the Abstractionists. For several years she also studied portraiture and still lives with Pamela DuLong in Kittery.
Artistic Philosophy
Ursula's work has been representational, but she strives for greater simplicity and abstraction in all her subjects. Her favorite medium is oil. She also works with pastels and watercolors. As a member of the New Hampshire Art Association she exhibits often and enjoys the interaction with fellow artists and art lovers.
Her artistic goals are to convey beauty, connection with fellow human beings, and joy.
